Dani California - Freya Twyman *
Inspired by Dani California by Red Hot Chilli Peppers
still red and wild and dancing
under the Californian sun
high and dry and crystallised
my wolfsbane-tongue
my smoking gun
on my knees, begging for release,
yet: still red, still wild, still dancing
hot and heavy are the limbs that yearn
that cannot dig, but merely graze
the sunlit pools dry up
in flashes, fleeting,
breathless, shaky from the chase
still i spin, round and round
high and dry, burning out;
California’s ablaze
still red, still wild, still raging
within the hollow of my chest
as i meet your piercing blue gaze
paradise-knife, honeydew-steeped
the blade cuts away what’s numb
under, over my tongue; to taste
let life pour forth, and relish
the sweetness of the bleed
simultaneous release
let the warm rain come in waves
though tethered, finally freed
California, rest in peace
i surrender, on my knees, the searing sun
writhe, now, rather from rapture than from pain
to the beating pressure, final, endless
as it comes: that California rain
by deliberate hands, the separation of seas
we come to resemble the California freaks
but not as in high for fast and for cheap
as in, come again, with me under
this California shower, drink me in
to forget all that is not soul-deep
at this, i become
a melt-in-your-mouth
June bloom
soft, rosy, thornless
under you,
rain storms in your eyes
gentle hunger as you bite
i am not weakened,
nor made meek
my breath given,
and received;
simultaneous release
flesh deep,
then bone
soon marrow,
i hope
a lust for life
surpassing eyes,
charred glances stolen
from the burning haze–
no, the California rain
carves, expands,
creates...
