Dance of the Pales
When midnight spawns a crimson moon,
and devils come from hell to play,
you might hear a harp’s regal tune,
that draws you in as though you’re prey.
Now follow this, you’ll find them soon,
but fear the kiss that drains your life away.
They swing and sway, on bones they dance,
through shimmers, shards of moonlight’s glow,
they sing, they spin and slowly prance,
their pale, dead skin on zealous show.
Minds sink to a hypnotic trance,
as the pale forms laugh, and the blood does flow.
Their dresses take flight with a swirl,
as diamonds, jewels and jades spin,
a demon’s eye inside each twirl,
which taints the soul beneath the skin.
For in their turns, each heated whirl,
there lies a deadly waltz of lust and sin.
Gowns of red, blue and ghastly green,
paint through the floor of marble white,
to make a colour never seen
that shifts much like a bird in flight.
Each second shows another scene,
within the artist’s eye of dark delight.
The harps sing loud, an ancient song,
with notes of silk, to trap their prey.
They feel so right, yet somehow wrong,
a lure that’s sweet but does betray
the mask that never would belong
to the face of death, in its’ grim ballet.
The pales part as the dancing dies,
Count Vlad Tepes takes the floor with pride,
he smiles and stares with pale, grey eyes,
at his love, his wife, his corpse bride.
They dance on shadows, moonlight skies,
like angels of the deep, as one they glide.
They linger on as red night wanes,
until the first, warm crack of dawn.
In a flash they’re gone, nought remains,
your soul is black, your heart forlorn.
You’re left alone in bitter pains,
with nothing but your soul to grieve or mourn…
