Inspired by Here is Where by There Will Be Fireworks.
Roses in adolescent arms,
And leaves upon the shoulders of the breeze
As if an angel’s wings wilt
Onto patched earth,
And a bouquet of raindrops amongst fledgling promises
Shuttered windows,
Three wooden chairs, dust swarming like
Feathers beneath the wind’s command
Upon their scaffolding
If a monster dreams, seldom do they stray
From the company of a voiceless flame
As if stitching together their memories
Into a ribbon wand, to watch
In the gentle maturity of youth,
Like a raindrop’s lesson in falling.
Watercolour skies like a storybook’s pages,
Moons of dust encircling a shaking hand
With apples adrift amongst boats and debris,
And butterflies perched on aching fingertips:
Her gentle sort of chaos
As if in a dream
Like rusting seashells
Yearning for home
